We have been demanding a complete and permanent ban on natural gas drilling and fracking and all related activities (including wastewater processing and discharges from and water withdrawals for drilling and fracking operations) throughout the Delaware River Watershed.

Now, as per the Sept. 13 Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) resolution (http://bit.ly/2gGd8t6), they are drafting regulations to be issued by Nov. 30 for public comment that could result in a fracking ban but also could allow the dumping of frack wastewater and the withdrawal of fresh water for fracking “where permitted”. And while the resolution offers the opportunity for a ban on fracking, there is reason to believe that even here the DRBC is only considering a partial ban for portions of the watershed, not a complete ban for the whole watershed.

Is the Delaware poised to become a dumping ground for everyone’s frack waste and will our drinking water be siphoned off by demanding drillers? What are they thinking?!

We have learned the hard way that if you build it, if you allow it, they will come. It defies logic to say fracking is banned but the toxic waste it produces and the water it depletes is acceptable. The ban is needed because we know fracking cannot be done safely and without degrading our water, land and air. Substantial damage is caused by the toxic soup produced by fracking that cannot be fully cleaned and those damages will spread downstream to negatively impact all of the watershed states and our vulnerable drinking water supplies.

Join us to express our shock and disappointment that the DRBC is preparing to issue these draft regulations. Join us to make it clear that the public will not accept regulations that would allow the Delaware to be dumped on and depleted.

Since there will be no opportunity for public comment at this meeting, we will express our commitment to defend the Delaware from fracking and its impacts with our presence. We need you there, please take an hour or two to join us to say YES Frack Ban NO Frack Waste, NO Water Pilfering!
