Continuing Conversation on Race and White Privilege

August 7, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Join us for Not in Our Town Princeton’s Continuing Conversation on Race and White Privilege on Monday, August 7 at the Princeton Public Library.

There will be a social hour with light refreshments at 6 pm. The program beginning at 7 pm features Tangere Hoagland talking about “US Black Women and Disposability: Violence Against Black Women.”

Though violence against women is widespread and feminists across many locations agree about its destructive effect on women, many of its forms are still rendered invisible by individuals and the state.  This is remarkably the case with femicides against women of color, specifically Black women whose deaths go unnoticed.  In her doctoral work and in conjunction with exploring case histories of femicide, Tangere Hoagland will draw on the disappearances of Black women as well as police violence against Black women. These cases illuminate how the state renders women of color disposable and shows the State’s complicity in violence against Black women.
