Dancing for Democracy

Who said activists can’t have fun? The first annual STAND fundraiser was a blast!

Attendees at the sold-out event had a great time dancing and rocking out to the music of our friends Nixon’s Head. Between the band’s sets, we held a silent auction and served (a lot of) great food. And more dancing! The music was non-stop.

Our fundraiser was not just fun, but it was a huge success. We now have the resources we need to file our paperwork to become a 501(c)3 federal nonprofit organization. The monies raised will also assist with our operational costs in the months ahead.

Here’s some feedback from our guests:

Sadaf Jaffer said, “The recent fundraiser was the most enjoyable political event I have attended in recent memory. The energy of the organizing committee was infectious. Every element of the evening was thoughtful from the table themes to the icebreaker. The event was both meaningful and fun. If we’re going to maintain the energy that had built over the last few months we need organizations like STAND to work towards a more representative and just political system — while having fun in the process”

Michael Goldberg told us, “It was great to spend time with such a committed group of people who care about their communities and their country.  Lots of Fun in a Wonderful atmosphere!”

The fundraiser would not have been possible without the incredibly talented fundraising and events team, led by Mae Boucher-Langdon (with help from her family Michael, Christopher, and Ysabella!). The team’s contributions include delicious food by Chris Crawford, DJ stylings by Lieve Monnens, photography by Fatima Mughal, and silent auction organized by Neena Singh. We had photo booth fun with Olga Starr. Thanks to Lisa Zuckerman D’Ambrogio, Joe Bonin, Patricia DiMaio, Roberta Neiman, Donato Nieman, Susan Johansen, Andy Rosenau, and P.J. Singh for your help making evening run so smoothly! Thank you to our volunteer decorators, bartenders and servers.

We would like to thank our silent auction donors: Suman Bagaria, Lisa Zuckerman D’Ambrogio, Jennifer Harmon, Sanjana Jhunjhnuwala, Julie Meyers, Fatima Mughal, Susanne Newmark, Nanthini Partha, Olga Starr, Deepal Singh Talwar, and Jammin Crepes.

Finally, a huge thank you to the members of Nixon’s Head, who performed our signature song STAND!
