Please find below the schedule for the Princeton & Slavery Project Symposium and its related programming for the weekend of November 16-19, 2017. We also invite you to attend additional events and programming from our on-campus and community partners.

Thursday, November 16

5:30 p.m.: Artist Talk: Titus Kaphar
Location: 10 McCosh Hall
This lecture, hosted by the Princeton University Art Museum, is free and open to the public; tickets are not required to attend.

Friday, November 17

2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.: “Facing Slavery: Princeton Family Stories” Documentary Film by Melvin McCray ’74 & Discussion
Location: Princeton Garden Theatre, 160 Nassau Street, Princeton, NJ 08542
This film screening is free and open to the public; Tickets required for admission. Tickets will be available through the Princeton University Ticketing Office.

4:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.: THE PRINCETON & SLAVERY PROJECT SYMPOSIUM: Keynote Address by Nobel Laureate Toni Morrison
Introduction by Tracy K. Smith, Princeton University Professor and the 22nd Poet Laureate of the United States
Location: Richardson Auditorium, Alexander Hall

“The Princeton and Slavery Project: How it Changes our Understanding of American History and Poses a Challenge to Historical Commemoration”

3:00 p.m. – 3:10 p.m.: Walking Tour Formation
Location: Outside 10 McCosh Hall
Those who are interested in a historical walking tour of campus should gather outside the entrance of McCosh Hall (in McCosh Courtyard).

3:10 p.m. – 3:45 p.m.: Walking tour to McCarter Theatre
Location: 10 McCosh Hall
Princeton undergraduates will escort guests across campus to see the various historic landmarks connected to Princeton & Slavery stories. The tour will conclude at McCarter Theatre.

4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.: “The Princeton and Slavery Plays”
Location: McCarter Theatre (Berlind Theatre), 91 University Place, Princeton, NJ 08540
The world premiere of seven short new plays based on historical documents unearthed by the Princeton & Slavery Project. This event is sold out. Please see below to reserve seating for the November 19 public readings.

Sunday, November 19

11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.: “Facing Slavery: Princeton Family Stories” Documentary Film by Melvin McCray ’74

1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.: “The Princeton and Slavery Plays” [Reprise]
Location: McCarter Theatre (Berlind Theatre), 91 University Place, Princeton, NJ 08540 
A repeat performance of Saturday’s performance, followed by a post-performance conversation with Daniel J. Linke, Professor Martha A. Sandweiss, Rita Isabela Morales, and playwrights. The plays are free and open to the public; Tickets are required to attend the plays.Tickets can be obtained through the McCarter Theatre Ticket Office.

4:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.: “The Princeton and Slavery Plays” [Reprise]
